Rehina's photo projects
Concierge (2022-2023)
A photo project about the life of a homeless man who works as a concierge and lives directly at the entrance of a building. He decorates our entrance, collects books and other important things, and is an open and friendly person. This gave me the opportunity to communicate and photograph his life for six months.
Photography is a very subtle tool, it can make fun. It was vital for me to convey to Sasha that he is an interesting and worthy personality and that I am in no way mocking him.
To do this, I chose the instant print format to show the result immediately. I wanted our communication with him to be open and honest.
Every time I asked if I could take a picture of something.
I didn't want to violate the other person's boundaries.
The longer I communicated with Sasha, the more interesting the result became. At the beginning of the shoot, he didn't want to be in the picture and didn't trust me very much. At the end of the shooting, Sasha started to add to the shots or offer his own ideas for photos. My project became important to him as well.
This level of involvement and trust turned out to be the most valuable and unexpected result of the project for me.
Now I'm working on an art book.
